The Kano State Government has denied reports that it wrote to the Federal Government to stop the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, from entering the state.
The reaction followed an allegation by a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Buba Galadima, who claimed that the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had taken steps to prevent Kwankwaso’s return to Kano.
In a statement released on Thursday, February 13, 2026, through the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the state government described the claim as false and aimed at causing confusion among residents.
The government made it clear that it never contacted the Federal Government or any agency to block Kwankwaso or any other citizen from entering Kano State.
It stated that such an action would go against the rights guaranteed to Nigerians under the constitution.
According to the statement, Kano remains calm and open to all citizens, and freedom of movement and association are respected.
The administration said it is focused on governance and on improving the lives of the people rather than engaging in political disputes.
The government also expressed concern over what it described as baseless accusations, noting that spreading claims without evidence could create unnecessary tension in the state.
It urged those making the allegations to either present proof or withdraw their statements in order to protect peace.
The statement further warned against linking the Federal Government to local political issues without facts, adding that public figures should be mindful of the effect of their words on the public.
