The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission carried out a search at the Abuja residence of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Thursday as part of its ongoing investigation into his administration.
The operation comes while El-Rufai is under the custody of the anti-graft agency, which is probing the finances of Kaduna State during his tenure from 2015 to 2023.
His media aide confirmed the search on social media, noting that it took place at his Aso Drive home.
El-Rufai’s lawyer described the search as unlawful, saying it violated legal procedures and the former governor’s rights.
It was not immediately clear if the legal team plans to challenge the action in court or whether any items were taken from the property.
This move adds to the series of investigations involving El-Rufai, as both the ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have examined his time in office over allegations of financial misconduct.
Requests for comment from the ICPC about the search were not immediately answered.
