IPOB Denies Involvement As Group Cancels Monday Sit-at-Home In South-East.

A group wearing the attire of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and carrying IPOB flags announced that the weekly Monday sit-at-home order in the South-East would no longer hold.

In a video that circulated widely on Sunday, the group said markets, schools, offices, and other workplaces should reopen from Monday, February 9, 2026, and residents could go about their activities without fear.

The group claimed their decision followed instructions from IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to stop the weekly sit-at-home practice.

They asked the people of the region to resume normal life, including trading, attending school, and working, assuring that it was now safe.

In the same video, the group warned Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo against interfering with traders, threatening consequences if life became difficult for marketers in the state.

Reacting to the announcement, IPOB distanced itself from the group.

The organization said it had no knowledge of the members and described them as criminals allegedly connected to Simon Ekpa, who seek to cause instability in the South-East.

IPOB also made it clear that it does not support groups involved in killings, kidnappings, or property destruction, and any association with such criminal activities under the IPOB name would be rejected.
