The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has rejected reports claiming that the Federal Government ordered a pause on enforcement of regulations for sachet alcohol and 200ml PET bottle alcoholic drinks.
The agency said the report circulating in the media is false and misleading, stating that no such instruction has been received.
NAFDAC explained that it continues to perform its duties under the law and in line with government policies formally communicated to it.
The clarification comes after a story attributed to the Special Adviser on Public Affairs to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation suggested that enforcement actions related to sachet alcohol had been halted.
The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, denied the claim, stating that the agency has not been asked to stop any regulatory activities.
She added that NAFDAC remains focused on protecting public health and ensuring that all food and drug products comply with regulations.
Adeyeye said the agency carries out its work transparently, following proper legal procedures.
She noted that any government decision affecting national regulations will be shared through official channels.
The public, media, and industry players are advised to rely on verified information from NAFDAC and authorised government platforms, rather than unconfirmed reports.
The agency also warned that false information could create unnecessary public worry or confusion about government policies.
NAFDAC reaffirmed its role in safeguarding public health and supporting economic stability while performing its regulatory duties.
Sachet alcohol and small-volume alcoholic beverages have been debated nationally for years due to concerns over underage drinking, substance abuse, and health risks.
