PDP Opposes Akwa Ibom Estate Plan In Abuja.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State to drop plans for building an Akwa Ibom Estate in Abuja and instead focus on solving the housing shortage within the state.

Governor Eno recently told members of the Akwa Ibom community in Abuja that his administration is exploring land in the Federal Capital Territory for the estate.

He also mentioned plans for Ibom Hotels and Apartments in Abuja and Ibom Towers in Lagos, aimed at growing the state’s hospitality projects.

In response, PDP’s Advocates for Peace and Justice (PAPA-J) described the proposal as poorly timed, given the rising housing challenges in Akwa Ibom.

The group noted that many residents in Uyo and other towns struggle with high rents, overcrowded homes, and unsafe living conditions.

The party argued that public funds should be used to develop large-scale housing projects within Akwa Ibom.

They said this would not only ease housing difficulties but also create jobs for local youth, support construction businesses, and boost the state’s economy.

They warned that an estate in Abuja would mostly benefit political elites rather than the general population.

PAPA-J urged Governor Eno to suspend plans for land purchase in Abuja and instead start an affordable housing program at home to help residents own homes and reduce rent burdens.

The group stressed that Akwa Ibom citizens deserve progress and development within their state.
