The Kano State Police Command has set restrictions on movement in some areas of the state ahead of the State House of Assembly by-elections scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.
The rules will affect Kano Municipal and Ungogo Local Government Areas, where the by-elections will be held.
The decision followed a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security on February 19, 2026.
The meeting was chaired by the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Kano, Zango Abdu, along with top security officials in the state.
The police said all security measures are in place to maintain order and ensure residents can vote safely.
They announced that vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles will not be allowed to move from midnight until 6:00 p.m. on the day of the election.
Exceptions will be made for ambulances, fire service vehicles, and cars belonging to electoral officials and accredited observers.
The police also stated that only registered voters will be allowed near polling units, and only officially cleared party agents will have access to voting centers.
The measures aim to provide a safe environment for voters while maintaining smooth conduct during the by-elections.
