President Bola Tinubu has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to use the upcoming elections in the Federal Capital Territory and bye-elections in Rivers and Kano states to build public confidence in the voting process.
The elections will hold in six area councils of the FCT, while bye-elections will take place in Ahoada East II and Khana II constituencies in Rivers State, and Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.
Tinubu urged voters, political parties, and election officials to act calmly and responsibly during the polls.
He stressed that eligible voters should participate without fear and that the democratic process works best in an atmosphere of calm, respect, and tolerance.
He called on candidates and supporters to avoid violence, provocative actions, or statements that could weaken the credibility of the elections.
The President also warned against intimidation or actions that could prevent people from voting, noting that security personnel are deployed to protect lives, property, and the integrity of the ballots.
Tinubu encouraged INEC to ensure smooth voting, accurate collation, and timely transmission of results to reassure the public.
He affirmed that his government will continue to back institutions that deliver free and credible elections.
He commended the civic awareness of residents in the FCT, Kano, and Rivers, expressing confidence that the elections will reflect the will of the people and strengthen Nigeria’s democratic path.
