The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has suspended senior prosecutor Samuel Chime after allegations surfaced that he accepted bribes and interfered with ongoing corruption cases.
The suspension came after an internal investigation ordered by EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, following multiple complaints from civil society groups, NGOs, and concerned citizens about Chime’s conduct.
Sources within the commission said the leadership was deeply concerned about the situation, warning that actions like these could hurt the agency’s reputation.
Chime, who led several high-profile cases involving former officials and fraud suspects in Abuja, Kano, and Port Harcourt, reportedly asked for mercy from the chairman as the probe continues.
The EFCC has informed courts handling cases involving Chime that he has gone on sick leave, resulting in adjournments to protect the commission’s public image.
Investigations also revealed that Chime allegedly duplicated charges in different courts, creating delays for defendants and violating prosecutorial rules.
Other prosecutors have been instructed to review both pending and past cases handled by Chime while the internal investigation continues.
The outcome could lead to his dismissal depending on further findings.
