Starting February 25, 2026, Nigerians applying for visit visas to the United Kingdom will receive electronic visas instead of the traditional physical stickers in their passports.
The UK government said this step is part of its plan to modernize its visa system and move toward fully digital borders.
Under the new system, applicants will access their visas online through their UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) accounts.
All visa application rules stay the same, meaning applicants must submit their applications, visit a Visa Application Centre to provide biometric data, and meet the usual eligibility requirements.
The only change is that approved visas will now be stored digitally rather than printed as stickers. Existing physical visas remain valid until their expiration or replacement.
Officials say digital visas will allow faster passport returns and make it easier for travellers to manage their immigration status online from anywhere.
The UK government also notes that eVisas are more secure, as they cannot be lost, stolen, or altered.
British Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja, Gill Lever, said the change will simplify travel for Nigerians.
She added that digital visas reduce reliance on paper documents while keeping travel safe and smooth.
Nigerians are encouraged to create a UKVI account once their visa is approved and to check the official UK government portal for guidance and updates.
