The United States has warned that Nigerians involved in visa fraud or overstaying their visas may face stricter checks in future applications.
The US Mission in Nigeria said such acts could affect all applicants, as the visa system uses detailed screening to ensure compliance.
Nigerians traveling legally to the US, including workers, entrepreneurs, students, and investors, are encouraged to follow the rules and report any fraudulent visa activity to the proper authorities.
The US noted that repeated overstays by some travelers have contributed to difficulties for others seeking visas.
This notice follows previous concerns by US consular officials about fraud in a small portion of visa applications from Nigeria.
To maintain access for responsible travelers, the US has sometimes reduced visa validity and increased background checks, aiming to protect the integrity of its immigration system.
Strengthening compliance, the US says, helps ensure students, business travelers, and families can continue visiting the country without unnecessary restrictions.
