Wike Cancels 485 FCT Land Titles.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has approved the cancellation of 485 land title applications in the territory after they failed official verification.

The decision affects applications submitted for the regularisation of land documents issued by Area Councils. Authorities said the affected files did not meet the required standards after undergoing integrity checks.

In a public notice released on Monday, the minister ordered that the rejected applications be removed from the records of the Department of Land Administration and the Abuja Geographic Information Systems. The notice serves as final information to those whose applications were affected.

Officials explained that the cancellation followed the discovery that the documents were not genuine or did not pass the required screening process. The publication also stated that further notices may follow as the review of records continues.

Some well-known institutions are among those affected. The list includes the Redeemed Christian Church of God and the Ministry of Justice Staff Multi-purpose Cooperative Society, along with other organisations and private individuals.

The cancelled titles are spread across different parts of the FCT. In the Abuja Municipal Area Council, areas such as Sabon Lugbe, Lugbe I Extension, Kurudu-Jikwoyi Relocation, Kurudu Commercial, Karu Village Extension, Nyanya Phase IV Extension and Jikwoyi Residential are involved.

In Bwari Area Council, the affected layouts include Ushafa Village Expansion Scheme, Ushafa Extension and Dawaki Extension 1. The Kuchiyako One layout in Kuje Area Council is also listed among the rejected applications.

The action forms part of ongoing reforms by the FCT Administration to clean up land records in the territory. Authorities have been dealing with cases of fake documents, multiple allocations of the same land and approvals that did not follow proper procedures.

Under Nigerian law, all land in the FCT belongs to the Federal Government. Valid land titles must pass through the office of the minister and be processed by AGIS before they can be recognised.l

Data earlier released by the FCT Administration shows the size of the challenge. From 2006 to 2023, 261,914 land documents from Area Councils were submitted for regularisation. However, only 8,287 had been successfully screened at the time of the last update, leaving more than 253,000 still awaiting review.
